EVALUATION SCRIPT - CERTIFIED PILOT

Aircraft: Bell 206B JetRanger III
Location: KMSO
Fuel: As determined by Instructor
Participants: 1 Instructor, 1 Student
Tools: MSFS, Teamspeak, (Alternate Chat Client if Necessary).

The complete test consists of 7 specific maneuvers. Each maneuver will be scored individually, and each maneuver must be passed in order to pass the entire test. Each maneuver will be rated on several factors:

1. Altitude control
2. Attitude control
3. Heading control
4. Radio Communications procedures (As required)

And, at the end of each maneuver, a score will be assigned from a 1 (Total inability to demonstrate skill) to a 5 (Masterfully demonstrates skill). A score of 3 will be considered a pass.

Rating scale:
1 = Total inability to demonstrate skill.
2 = Minimal ability to demonstrate skill.
3 = Average ability to demonstrate skill.
4 = Above Average ability to demonstrate skill.
5 = Masterfully demonstrates skill.

When we begin the test, we will continue through all 7 maneuvers, one after the other. At the end of the test, I will tabulate the scores and provide feedback to you on each specific maneuver.

Do you have any questions prior to commencing the test.?

1. STATIONARY HOVER

Starting Location: Center of a KMSO Hovercircle, (Heading and circle as selected by instructor).

Instructor Text:

TEST: I will be evaluating your ability to execute and maintain a stationary hover at 10-15 feet above the ground (AGL) over the center of the Hovercircle.

When I give you the instruction to begin, I want you to lift off into a stationary hover and maintain an altitude of 10-15 AGL, holding your current heading throughout the test and without leaving the center circle of the hover circle helipad. Do not end the hover until I give you the instruction to do so, at which time I want you to land the helicopter in the same location you lifted off from.

Pay special attention to holding a steady hover with minimal drift, altitude, heading and attitude changes.

I will give the instruction to begin after you confirm that you understand my instructions and are ready to go.

2. ROTATING HOVER

Starting Location: Center of the Hovercircle, Heading selected by instructor.

Instructor Text:

TEST: I will be evaluating your ability to execute a similar hover at 10-15 feet, but this time you will also be turning the helicopter in the direction of your choice (left or right) through a full 360 degrees of rotation.

When I give you the instruction to begin, I want you to lift off into a stationary hover and, maintaining an altitude of 10-15 AGL, turn the helicopter through a full 360 turn (either left or right) without leaving the center circle of the hover circle helipad. Once you have completed the turn I want you to hold your hover at your original heading, until I give you the instruction to land, at which time I want you to land the helicopter in the same location you lifted off from.

Pay special attention to holding a steady hover with minimal drift, altitude, and attitude changes.

I will give you the instruction to begin after you confirm that you understand the instructions and are ready to go.

3. FORE, AFT, AND LATERAL MOVEMENT IN THE HOVER

Starting Location: Center of the Hovercircle, Heading selected by instructor.

Instructor Text:

TEST: I will be evaluating your ability to execute a hover at 10-15 feet AGL, but you will also be demonstrating your ability to move your helicopter forwards, backwards, and laterally - sideways.

When I give you the instruction to begin I want you to lift off into a stationary hover at 10-15 feet AGL. In a slow, smooth, and precise manner and maintaining your current heading throughout the maneuver, I want you to move over the square that is forward and to the right of your current position. You will then move backward until you are above the square directly behind you. Next, I want you to move laterally to the left until you are over the next square, then you will move forward until you are over the next square in front of you, and finally you will move laterally to the right to end up over the same square you started from. Hold your hover there until I give you the instruction to land.

Pay special attention to holding a steady hover with minimal drift, altitude, and attitude changes.

I will give you the instruction to begin after you confirm that you understand the instructions and are ready to go.

4. LANDING THE SQUARES OF THE HOVERCIRCLE

Starting Location: Square and heading as landed in from Maneuver #3.

Instructor Text:

TEST: I will be evaluating your ability to execute a hover at 10-15 feet AGL, but you will also be demonstrating your ability to land in a precise manner in each of the 4 squares at the outside edge of the hovercircle. This test will be mixture of the different skills that you have demonstrated so far.

When I give you the instruction to begin I want you to lift up into a stable hover at 10-15 feet AGL. In a counter-clockwise fashion you will then slowly move to the next square without changing your current heading until you are over the target square, where you will change direction to match the arrow within that square and then land precisely in the square.

Continue this maneuver around all the squares until you have returned to the square from where you started from, landing back in that square.

Pay special attention to your smooth and slow handling technique, as well as your precision landing and heading changes.

I will give you the instruction to begin after you confirm that you understand the instructions and are ready to go.

5. ORBIT THE HOVERCONTROL PYLONS

Starting Location: Square and heading as landed in from Maneuver #4.

Instructor Text:

TEST: I will be evaluating your ability to lift off into a controlled hover, transition into climbing forward flight, perform an orbit of the Hovercontrol Pylons at an assigned altitude and airspeed, return to the hovercircle executing a slow, controlled descent, perform a transition back into a controlled hover, and finally a landing back in the center of the Hovercircle.

When I give you the instruction to begin, I want you to lift off into a controlled hover and then slowly transition into climbing forward flight to an altitude of 100 feet AGL and at a speed of between 20-30 knots.

Continue in this flight regime and fly direct to the Hovercontrol pylons. Once there, begin to orbit the pylons in a slow and smooth fashion by turning to the right and maintaining a constant 100 feet AGL around the pylons, at a speed between 20-30 kts. Continue to orbit until I give you the instruction to land.

Once I give you the instruction to land, I want you to head back towards the hovercircle from where you departed, and smoothly transition from your orbit flight altitude and speed into a slow forward descent, ending the descent in a controlled hover at the center of the hovercircle prior to landing.

Pay special attention to your smooth climbing and descending transitions and the precision of your speed, altitude, and heading changes.

I will give you the instruction to begin after you confirm that you understand the instructions and are ready to go.

6. FLY THE RUNWAY, JOIN LEFT TRAFFIC, AND APPROACH AND LAND ON THE NUMBERS

Starting Location: Generally East of the airport over the city of Missoula, between 700 and 1000 ft above ground (AGL).

Instructor Text:

TEST: I will be evaluating your ability to precisely control your heading, altitude, and air speed prior to entering and during the left traffic pattern for KMSO's runway 29 as well as your ability to smoothly approach runway 29 and land centered on the numbers. I will also be evaluating your radio procedures and correct terminology as it applies to this maneuver.

When I give you the instruction to begin you head back towards KMSO runway 29. You will fly directly over and down the length of runway 29 at 700ft AGL and at a speed of 80kts Once you have reached the end of the runway you will turn crosswind to join a left traffic pattern. After following the left traffic pattern all the way around, when established on final you will execute a slow smooth approach to the runway touching down centered on the runway numbers, with your heading matching that of the runway. You will apply correct radio procedures throughout this maneuver, and announce (by voice) all intentions throughout.

Pay special attention to the precision of your altitude, speed, and heading control, as well as correct radio procedures.

I will give you the instruction to begin after you confirm that you understand the instructions and are in position and ready to go.
