Hi all
Its been a long time since any update but good things take time

I have started to work on mounting the collective under the seats. The panel is nearing completion and I will start on the paint job soon

Small update, just connected the collectives to the plate that will then slot into place under the seat.
Both throttles work next stage will hook up the potentiometers and wire up landing light, governor and starter switches.

Hi Rhys,

That looking really good. I recall you where going with hall effect sensors for your flight controls. Do you have all the electronics sorted for that yet? If so could you post some pictures of that setup and how they will interface with the actual flight controls.

The panel is looking great too. Did you do the text engraved panels yourself or out source that? If you used an external company do you mind mentioning who they are, price range and how you rated their service??

On a separate note, it would appear from the photos you have quite a large area to store your sim (fire station perhaps?;). So I was just wondering how the display research is coming along and if your leaning toward a multi projector/ curved screen setup?
Keep up the posts! its looking awesome! Maybe you can fly it by Christmas??

:)

Hi Stuart

Here is a pic of the finished switch panels. The original panels were etched onto the mat black which did not show up to well so I went with a etching material which does the trick. Work was done by graley plastics in Petone.

Still looking at how best to setup the controls Hall effect vs Pots I am using Leo bodnars control board for the joystick interface

The sim is at a workshop that has done the fabrication and helping with the build

I will be using two short throw projectors on a curved screen hoping to get around 120 degrees still looking at what type of screen material to use
Here's hoping before xmas ha ha

Cheers

Rhys

Hi Rhys,

Amazing Project!

Curious, how hard was it to find both collective controls for the project?

I have spent years searching for the MD500 pilots collective with the Starter button, with no luck. Please let me know if you ever find a source for one.

When you have a chance, could you post a close up picture of the collective control with the STARTER button.

Question: Will the simulated start sequence function identical to the real aircraft?

Cheers,

Joe

Hi Joe
Thank you for the kind words. I got lucky with the collectives they were written off but I still had to pay for them.
The start switch was serviceable and wasn't cheap for such a small item.
I hit a brick wall for other small items needed to finish off
Its getting hard to track down parts for the older MD's now and all usable items fetch top dollar

If I purchase the Milviz MD530f there is a option to have the real starter working
At the moment I am using the old nemeth brothers MD500e which still fly's well in FSX

Hi all

Its been a long time since any update, progress is slow but getting there

Currently working on connecting the potentiometer's to the cockpit controls. I am looking a using a futaba servo arm which will attach directly to the aircraft control rods
