Kneeboard Checklist
http://www.hovercontrol.com/aircraft/hc412/checklists.html
Kneeboard Reference
http://www.hovercontrol.com/aircraft/hc412/index.html

1. Generator Switches will not move at all, not even a little
This is covered in the first section of both the kneeboard checklist and reference guide.  Choose one of the saved Hovercontrol flights and start with it.  Then change your 412 and/or move to another geographic location if you choose, and save your own flight.  If you want to save your own flight from scratch, you must follow the steps listed on the first part of the checklist or reference.

2. Flight dynamics and controls are too sensitive
The real-world 412 is extremely sensitive to pilot control inputs, but is not unstable.  This simulation is the same.  It is especially sensitive under maximum gross weight conditions.  If you would like a break from the sensitive controls, simply reduce the value of your General Realism Slider in flight simulator.  This can be found at the menu Aircraft->Realism Settings->General Realism Slider.   Try 60% and then experiment from there.   For full realism set this slider to 99% (one click away from the right side).

3.  Instruments are not on, or attitude indicators are drooping
You will need to follow the checklist when starting this aircraft.  You have forgotten to turn on important system switches.

4.  All of my electrical systems are not working
You have consumed the entire charge of your battery.  This is mostly likely the result of taking to long to investigate other systems or go through the checklist while your battery is on.  If you need extra time to familiarize yourself with the location of panels or systems.  Visit the overhead-right panel, and turn the battery bus off until you are ready to continue.

5. HSI heading selection increments by 10 degrees
This is covered in the known issues section of the kneeboard Hovercontrol 412 pilot reference.  It is an obscure problem caused by the 3rd party autopilot gauge included with the 412.  You can work around the problem by using your mouse wheel to adjust the HSI heading/course knobs.  This problem will only occur after you have popped-up the panel that contains the autopilot and autohover systems.  If you don't use this panel, the problem will not occur.

Also..  (thanks Gizmocat!)

If you have the registered version of FSUIPC, then you can go to the "Technical" tab and tick the box "Fix Control Acceleration" (Bottom Left Hand Side), this will sort out the doors (Shift-E-2) and the "10 degree step" on the HSI problems.

6. 412 Front doors won't open or close
This cause of this problem is the same as #5. As well as the workarounds/solutions.

7.  Crash-to-Desktops when "Creating a Flight" or using the HC412 as a default flight.
This is a known issue addressed in Service Pack 1.  This service pack can be downloaded from the HC Helicopters file download area and installed over your basic installation.  All users should install this Service Pack.

8.  I am using FS2002, and I see no gauges in the cockpit
The Hovercontrol 412 will only work with Flight Simulator 9 (FS2004).

9. There is a big red warning where one of the gauges should be in the cockpit
Click on the warning, and it will disappear, revealing the triple tachometer of the 412.

Hello all,
I'm a new kid here and to FS.  I have only used FSX and loaded the 412 without a problem. At first it was twitchy like a Robinson, just a hellova lot bigger. I have my settings @ full realism but had to adjust the sensitivity down a tad. My Saitek controller has some inherent lag so I set the null zone to 0. It flies beautifully on FSX.

Sometimes I'll be flying along level and straight, then the engine suddenly looses power, the ship rolls over to the right and the cyclic starts shuttering. If I'm able to autorotate and save the flight, I can't get the engines to re-start. I have unlimited fuel set and automixture on.

My first thought was "Dang freeware! I probably need to buy the full version to continue flying"

What stupid thing am I doing wrong?

Kevin

BTW...
I've found that if you land the 412 in water, it floats!

You are over-speeding or over-torquing the aircraft.  Basically you damaged it and are going to crash.  This is by design.  Follow the checklist and performance specs carefully and you will not have this issue.

@ 90 knots level flight?

I believe I found the answer in the Jordan Moore support forum. Turbine temp too high. Doh!

Thanks for the advise Panther. You're right. I did have a bad habit of pulling too much collective and flying nose up for too long.  It took me some time to learn how to properly slow that big baby down and not overshoot the LZ.  It doesn't drop or  flare anything like a 206.
 Duh!   :D

OK...Confession time. I found the real problem.

Thanks Panther and thank you Jordan for building such a great simulation. I'm enjoying the heck out of it.
I feel like I owe you $49.95 plus shipping.

My wife's not very happy about it though.

Take 'er easy.

Hello

When I fly the 412 in Chitina (CXC) airport everything works fine but if I move away from chitina to another airport I get these black stripes over the right windshield ??? . The same thing happens if I fly to far from chitina , very strange. Does anyone have the same problem or know how to fix it?
My computer is not the fastest 2.0GHz Pentium, Geforce4 MX 420 with like 64Mb memory and 256 MB RAM, windows XP, Flight simulator X

Oh and chitina happens to be the airport were I first loaded the helicopter.

Cheers
Victor

My only guess, judging from the specs you listed that as you get away from the airport more and more textures are competing for space, and you might not have the video memory needed to get by.  Things like clouds, ground textures, autogen, etc, are some of what can put demand on texture loading.  The load can definitely vary depending on geographic location, direction of view, speed, weather settings, scenery/autogen density settings, natural changes in the geography that might have more or less scenery and autogen variety. (More variety means more textures).

Okay, I've had a new computer now for a couple of weeks and the problem with the windows are gone :D
But now both the center panel and the overhead is all black??
I run vista 64-bit and FSX SP-2.
If I turn on DX10 preview the whole cockpit disappears but that doesn't matter :P

I love the 412, but I have a question, just for my knowledge.

Why doesn't the FSX 412 work with HeliForce?  The two work famously together in FS9, but in FSX it gets the jitters and eventually just rolls over uncontrollable.  I have noticed this with a few other FSX helos.  I think the JustFlight R44 behaves about the same.

If there is a fix for it, I would sure appreciate it.  I really love that helicopter.

Hello Jordan and group,

I have loaded up the 412 and have flown some with it with some success.  I did not see any preloaded flights in the FSX load down of the aircraft so I followed the steps to properly save my own flight.  I can launch on a flight with the aircraft and climb to 1500 feet holding 115 to 120 kts and maintaining the % torque in the green and fly for 5 to 10 maybe 15 minutes, it varies.  All of the sudden, I get a shudder in the aircraft and smoke comes out of the right rear lower section of the fuselage and the aircraft rolls uncontrollablly all the way to impact with the ground.  I know this sounds a bit like Kapt Copters post below (or above) but I never did see an answer to the problem.  Please help as I really love the 412.  You've done an awesome job with this simulation and I fly the PMDG MD11 every day.  This is a great simulator for us rotor heads.  Please help.

thanks

Mike

hello everybody,

I am experienced a strange thing and I would share this with you, hoping to find out a solution.
I decided to make the fsx sling load mission, the default one, with the 412 PE. I have made all the things in this case: tick the "allow changes and so on..." checkbox, saved a flight with the new helicopter, modified the .flt file to specify the lenght of the ropes, open it from the mission menu.
in this situation the generator switches do not move at all (I have tryed a normal flight from the free flight definition panel and they move).  I can start up the helicopter but after few minutes hovering trying to pick up the first load, it seems there is a loss of power from the engines.

maybe I make something wrong in starting or using the helicopter but I'd like to know what.

I copy here the strings related to the sling position, to add to the aircraft.cfg, to whom want to use the sling and the winch wiht this helicopter. Mainly, I have found the position of the ropes with respect to the helicopter

After the engine(s) are running.  Enter and exit slew mode using the "Y" key.  It will get the generators working.

Good morning to all, the Bell 412 and 212 are so fine, that with some friend decided to make some italian repaint, we are italians and Italy is one of the main operator of both models.
We are developing an AI military traffic for Italy (FS2004), and we were succesfull to transorm both 412 and 212 in AI aircrafts.
Please, I need to contact or to be contacted by mr. Moore for permission and suggestions.
All our work will be free and available to all, at the moment, we are still testing.
Thank you

Thanks for asking.  Feel free to include Hovercontrol 412 in your project.  Good luck!  (keep in mind, I did not develop the 212).

Guess my previous questions have already been answered through my readings and with assistance from other HC pilots who are familiar with the 412 like Ninja ;-)

Thanks to those who helped  :)

Hi all -- having two quick problems, which I can't seem to find an answer to --

1.  Everyone mentions using one of these special pre-canned flights to get things going properly -- where are they?  I used the exe, so those should have been installed where I can see them, correct?

2.  The helicopter itself is great, a work of art -- yet I don't seem to have any front of my ship when viewed in virtual cockpit mode.  Is this normal?  If not, is there a fix?  I find it strange that it is broken if I used the standard exe installation into the right directory.

Greetings,

The canned flights was regarding the FS9 installation, for which the 412 was originally developed.  They are not relevant to the FSX installation, although sometimes you'll still find references to them.

As for "front of my ship", could you help me understand a bit better what you mean by that?  A screenshot would be great, but a better description would be good as well.
