Just make ATC louder in comparison to the other sounds in FSX's settings and then adjust all the 206 sounds down an appropriate amount in the Addons->DodoSim206FSX->Settings dialog.

While you are there, make sure you sound "devices" hasn't managed to change itself to something obscure

I took a completely different track.
I listened to each individual sound file in an editor and reduced the volume of the 3 files that sounded like winy vacuum cleaners.
Sounds much more like wearing headphones.

Trust me to kill a fly with a sledgehammer

I made several of the sound files from unusual household items. :)
The mechanical engine failure sound is me scraping a knife around the inside of an empty cat food tin!

This really good stuff to know. Really good. This thread is a bit long in the tooth, but this is important stuff for us. Dont know what your plans are for sound, but A2A have implemented headphones. This is not 'they did it so why can't you?' Just FYI.

Thanks

That was an idea I thought about when we originally did the FSX version, but what I wanted to do was have a second sound set where I'd put all the wavs through a low-pass filter to better simulate the actual sounds, rather than just lower the volume.  The problem was that at the time most PCs were struggling with FSX and the huge burden large textures and sounds were putting on the PCI busses. It's still an option for the HD version.
