After rebuilding my PC and only having P3d installed, I encountered some frustrations with Dirks AP gauge not working correctly with P3D v2 and v3

Now only having v3 installed I sat down today to problem solve why it wasnt working and to see what google had to offer, many posts across the net displayed the same problems I was encountering.

After going through all the files and my set up, I found out it was a very easy fix that I overlooked so many times

I got the latest files from Dirks Page however I dont use his ground speed addon

Installation
1, Place the gauge files as directed
2, place the cfg files as directed.
3, However, just place the HAP.cfg in your root P3D folder

P3D dll.xml file !
located in your C:\Users\####\AppData\Roaming\Lockheed Martin folder, you need to add the following

The Gauge itself
Then you need to add the gauge to your helo
open the panel.cfg of your folder and add

As for the line in bold you need to enter the location of your p3d root directory


Ensuring the Helo is AP compliant
Then double check the Aircraft.cfg to see if the helo has an autopilot and if it hasnt, just add the following

I did all this and I have the the autopilot window up but how do I know if the autopilot is activated? I dont see anything come on the blank black part above the buttons. I am using P3D V3 and I installed it on the r-22 that comes with it. Thanks

Also stab light wont go off its always on yellow. Is that an issue?

That looks ok, did you enter the .dll details into the dll.xml file?

Im leanning towards that the gauge is showing up, then you have entered it correctly

if you havent the hap.dll file wont respond if its not entered correctly

the other thing, you need to be above 200ft and going faster than 40kts for the AP to engage

Good day gents

I have FSX as well as P3Dv3 installed on the same PC.
The HAP is installed on the same EH101 on both versions.
The FSX works as advertised but the P3Dv3 does not work.

I followed all the steps outlines by Jeansy. Although the Gauge itself works, there is no functionality.  This led me to believe that the HAPX.dll was not working for some reason.  This is the same thing that is probably happening with jscarano's setup.

I've analyzed Jeansy's instructions and noticed that he mentions adding the HAPX.dll to the "dll.xml".  I did that and I get an error back from the debugger:
3.08651 DLL Start Proc not found:  StartProc="DLLStart"  Path="D:\Program Files(x86)\Lockheed Martin\Prepar3D v3\HAPX.dll"
3.08739 DLL Stop Proc not found:  StopProc="DLLStop"  Path="D:\Program Files (x86)\Lockheed Martin\Prepar3D v3\HAPX.dll"
3.08767 DLL Load Failed:  Error=-2  Path="D:\Program Files (x86)\Lockheed Martin\Prepar3D v3\HAPX.dll"

Quick update ...

I can't believe that I found the fix!

It looks like the German guys have posted an update.

Here's the link to the update:

Also, there is no need to do anything to the dll.xml since HAPX.dll is not designed to work that way.

Simply follow Dirk's instructions first then apply the update by overwriting the files.  That's all!

works fine for me and several others

however you might want to re check your some of your statements before blowing your trumpet as the dll.xml is a required file for many addons including the official P3D SDK, pmdg, FSUPIC.

You do need.to add it to your fsx dll.xml file however fsx asks you if you want to add it on start up the first time you boot up after installing it, check your fsx dll.xml to see if its there

the link you posted is the exactly the gauge I posted

Send me your a copy of your dll.xml and I will have a look

as its appearing you have not set up your dll.xml file or placed the files in the correct place or your didnt edit the xml file correctly ie double clicked not right click edit. My guess you messed up your xml file

Again it works fine for me on 2 systems and the people who i have helped have managed to get it working

My understanding is that you need to use dos 8 character folder names, particularly for the cfg file.

it will not work as its a 32bit coded .dll

Antton the actual coder hasnt been active in several years and this old emails is invaild

Dirk doesnt have any P3D last time I spoke with and he gone offline for the past several months

so saldy there is no v4 fix unless a gauge coder creates one from scratch for V4

even if you try to convert it to 4 it wont work as you cant decompile a gau into usable code, the only thing you could retrieve is any bmp images
