Hi everyone,

I have just started using Dirk's fantastic autopilot.

Here is the one remaining issue that I have to solve with it:

Once my helicopter goes into Flight Mode and then attains 75 kn, I would like to have it go even faster.  But this keyboard operation is clearly not working:

[Ctrl] [shift] K

Dirk writes this:

"Key commands are detected by the AFCP gauge; thus they only work after the AFCP gauge has been initialized i.e. displayed for the first time."

What does this mean, please?  What is the AFCP gauge?  How do I initialize it?

I thank all of you.  I would really like to get this issue sorted out.  Then I believe I would have complete management of this wonderful helicopter autopilot.

So, to summarize, why don't the keys work using Dirk's autopilot?

Thank you all so much.

It could be that the ap1 file isn't located in the correct place, or the AFCP.cfg I think. The AFCP file has the key-bindings in it. Do you have copies of each in the FSX root folder?
Initializing, in this case, means calling it as a pop-up in the 2D panel at least once, and leaving it up. You can also increase airspeed, by the way, by lclicking on the bottom left or right sides of the IAS knob. Mouse pointer should become a square with a + or - in it to indicate when you are on the click-spot.
Alternatively, you can shut off the IAS by clicking on top of the knob, accelerate the bird on your own to the desired speed, and then turning the IAS hold back on. I believe it will hold the current speed.

I strongly suggest locatingfsx_hap_gauge_tutorial.zip. It's has 6or 7 tutorials, how-to files for installation, and how to use the HAP. Absolutely invaluable.
Hope all this helps a little...
Pat

Hi Pat,

Thank you for your reply.

Yes, I have the the ap1 and the afcp in the FSX root folder.

If I could click on the left and right sides of the IAS button, that would be great.  But that doesn't work either.  And I don't get any + or - sign.

I tried your suggestion of turning off the HAP, but then I suddenly get great instability with the helicopter.  Thus, that suggestion doesn't work either.

I am getting confused just what should be in each helicopter's panel configuration file, because the information has gone through a few iterations.  I wish I could see the three gauge lines one more time to be sure that I have got everything correct.

Thank you for trying to help, but I am not making any further progress.

Here's what I use:

Code Sample
//--------------------------------------------------------
[Window07]
Background_color=0,0,0
size_mm=300,360
window_size_ratio=1.000
position=0
visible=0
ident=81
window_size= 0.300, 0.360
window_pos= 0.650, 0.360

gauge00=AS532AFCP!Annunciator,0,0,300,110
//NO SPACES ALLOWED BEFORE THE CONFIG FILE
gauge01=AS532AFCP!AFCP,0,112,300,134,c:\HAP\hap.cfg
//NO SPACES ALLOWED BEFORE THE CONFIG FILE
gauge02=AS532AFCP!GS,0,247,300,113

and then i put HAP.cfg in C:\HAP and it is used by all panels I modify

For ref., my hap.cfg is:

I can't address the keyboard issue, but once the switch for the IAS is clicked to the ON position, placing your cursor just below and to the right of the IAS switch will enable a plus sign (+) to increase the IAS, and placing the cursor just below to the left will produce a minus sign (-) to decrease the IAS.

It works similarly for the ALT and HDG switches. Although I am certain it worked at some point, I have been having some issues with the ALT switch not displaying the +/-.

My workaround has been to turn off the ALT and instead use the ALT.A switch (white text in display) to adjust altitude, which at some point will revert in the display to the ALT indication (yellow text in display).

There have been some updates to the HAP over the years and it seems that the readme's and tutorial PDF's have not been updated, so the keystrokes may not match the original documentation. (there may be some updated docs at Dirk's Homepage) Menu access is in the upper right corner.

Or, if you haven't seen the tutorials, you can download the update at Simviation.

It is very easy to get confused with the update, which features two visual panels with the same names, so stay vigilant as to which you have selected and installed.

Bottom line is that once you get it sorted out it works very well, you just need to keep an eye on it, because one or more of the IAS, HDG, or ALT controls may inadvertently shut off without warning during a flight, and it is very easy to inadvertently turn off a switch while adjusting up or down.

Hope this helps.
Gman

Thank you so much, Kyrelel and GmanM!

Kyrelel, I used your code and now everything seems to work!

I will study what both of you nice people sent me, and do experiments over the next several days.  But at this moment, all seems good.

Thanks again.  I am so pleased.

Hi Kyrelel,

On your post regarding keystrokes, what does GRAVE mean?

Thank you.

The key to the left of the "1" on the top row of the keyboard which gives the ` character - you can, of course, change it to any key you wish by referencing the code list in the docs - I had to choose that one as I have almost all possible kepresses already mapped to something

But that key activates the ATC window, right?

Yes it does. But you can re-map that function to another key combo, or the GRAVE key-mapping to another key combo. That's the default, is all.
By the way, I awlays called that key the Tilde key. It's a character (if you use shft+GRAVE) used in Spanish to indicat a certain "N" sound. Also called an "Enyay" (phonetic spelling. I don't the real one). It indicates the Spanish sound of the N.

Hi PhantomTweak and everyone,

Just one follow-up to the keystroke question.  I ask this mainly to educate myself because I am not going to remap the tilde key.

But let's say, hypothetically, that I wanted to remap it to the letter 'j', for example.  So instead of having KEYB 41 0 0, what would I have?

And for shift tilde, if I wanted to use 'J' (that is, capital 'j'), instead of having KEYB 41 0 128 3, what would I have?

And actually I notice that in another place tilde is listed as KEYB 41 0 0 3, so I am a bit confused.

None of this is critical.  I am just trying to learn how key-mapping works.

Thank you all.

Stanley

Thank you much for the link to the update at Simviation, I was struggling with various downloads of the original version.

There was no IAS control, only the button, I could not get any key commands to work.

I went to the link, downloaded it, and you should have seen my face when I saw that there were two panels, and the 2nd one had way more buttons and ability to control more by hovering to the bottom left or right.

I immediately removed the old AP, and installed the 2nd panel and everything and it works great, I don't have to use keys.

One thing I hate is that if I hide the interface for shooting videos sometimes the IAS or ALT changes, or sometimes it just starts descending even with the IF open, and descends to the ground.

I will just keep experimenting with it.

To avoid any confusion (caused by different keyboard layouts in different countries) regarding "Tilde" and "Grave"

On a US Keyboard:
`   <-- Grave (Used in French) is just the key to the left of "1" on top row
~  <-- Tilde (used in Spanish) is SHIFT+Grave (i.e the same key, but SHIFTed)

On a UK Keyboard:
`   <-- Grave (Used in French) is the key to the left of "1" on top row
~  <-- Tilde (used in Spanish) is SHIFT+# (next to Enter key)

You are, of course, free to assign any key you like, as long as it does not conflict with any other mappings.

If you have any problems with assigned keys not working, first double-check that the key is not commented out in hap.cfg. Many (most?) of my keycodes are commented out because I already have shedloads of mappings and using the mouse is easier (and more accurate) for most inputs.

You need to set the HDG to something very close to your current heading, then, once the AP takes control of the helicopter, you can change the HDG to what you want it to be.
Also, don't open the AP window, then close it again. I've had it turn on different functions all by it's self, with seemingly random values. Open it up, set what you want to set, then you can close it again, if you want.

Hope this helps  :)

i doesnt work in p3d v4 and above as its 32bit coded you need a 64bit gauge

there is only one true 64bit AP gauge and its written by LM

you can download it here> http://aussiex.org/forum....topilot
