Our own nighsta1ker has been burning the midnight oil learning how to modify Take on Helicopters and has spent quite a bit of time tweaking the light heli flight dynamics.  Initial feedback is quite positive.  The good news it the underpinnings of ToH might be more simulator than originally thought.  If so this could be a serious plus for our community.

Unfortunately I have not figured out a good way to distribute it here.  The file ends up being rather large. Once I get a better understanding of ToH add ons I hope to be able to setup a file area here.

Just a suggestion...

Put the file(s) for distribution in HC TS3.

Regards.

Great news Chris. I had given up on it. I'll re-install it then.
There are some great elements to toh but flight dynamics are not one of them YET!!

When I have time I can post some links and instructions, and then users that don't mind doing a little more than "drag and drop" can implement these changes on their own. The structure is a little more complicated than what we are familiar with in FSX, so bear with me.

Still hits our bandwidth.

Here is what I will do. I'll put it in my public dropbox folder.

1. To use find your Bohemia Interactive\Take On Helicopters\AddOns folder.
2. Make a backup copy of air_us_h.pbo
3. Replace it with the file included in the zip
4. Start ToH
5. Bump your difficulty to expert
6. Set your cyclic and pedal sensitivity to 50% and no null zone.
7. Load a flight with the light heli (free flight works best).
8. Fly and notice the improvements

Now the changes are just for the light heli not the medium or the heavy so any issues they have in expert mode are still there.  That said, Scott clearly demonstrates that improvements are possible.

Since you guys are involved, just pulled the trigger on Take on Helicopters. Since NightStalker is improving it, I bought it. You do excellent work. Thank you!

This is very good to hear.Having much experience with Arma/Arma 2,I knew the flight models were lacking.Especially annoying was the lag in the controls which were also evident in TOH Beta.I just might make a purchase if this is improving.Good job.

Gonna try it right away

AMAZING! It's so fun to fly it now! Lag is gone, so I can acually hover! BiS should actually reward Nightstalker for his amazing job...

I have combined my edits with those of another user with very nice results.  It flies like a 500 now.  I will be posting a download link within a few days.

Also, RTD has asked me to beta test their official flight dynamics patch, so I will have a chance to take a peek at it and provide them with some feedback.

I will keep everyone updated.

Sweet.  Going to be just a XML file now Scott?

Thank you sooo much for the Flight Dynamics update and the HU on the controller settings. The Hughes now feels like a helicopter and not a bucking Bronco without a bit!
Great work, Scott!!
Cheers - Dai.

Your welcome.  I'm sorry to say that my work on TOH has stalled since the release of XP10.  I can't stop flying it.  I have pretty much completely lost interest in TOH.  For now.  I may come back to it eventually.  There are others who are still working to improve things though.

Cheers.

Thanks, Scott - I've been pondering migrating from FSX to XP-10 but haven't had the motivation - yet. I've seen the 206B in XP-9 demonstrated - looked pretty good. If the 206B in XP-10 was as good as the Dodo-Sim then that might make me think again. What do you think?
On the ToH front, I installed it for review purposes but I have to admit, I got hooked on the gameplay (I'm not a game merchant). Until I downloaded your modifications I could no way hover/land without 'hover' mode turned on. Didn't feel too pleased with that as I thought I had helicopters 'tamed' after 18 months with the DodoSim.
Whetever - I think ToH may very well draw more players into the rotor-craft sim world than turn them away...
Cheers - Dai.
