Config & Hardware
X-Plane v9 - Menu Settings

As with any flight simulator, the first step is trying to figure out what configuration settings will work well for you and your PC hardware. The following settings are those that I have found to be working well for my average PC (P4 3.0ghz 2GB RAM - Nvidia 7800GS 256MB). While these settings may not be right for you, I hope these might give a place to start from. With these settings I can produce between 35-45 frames/sec in fairly dense scenery. In less developed areas I can produce between 45-55 frames/sec. I have included the menu settings for displaying your framerate, so that as you learn more, you can adjust settings to meet your own needs. As with any other simulator, helicopters will require fairly decent frame rates to enjoy realistically.

Each image is labeled below with where the menu can be found.

Good Luck!

Settings->Rendering Options

Settings->Joystick & Equipment -> Center Tab

Settings->Data Input and Output

Settings->Operations and Warnings

Settings->Sound

Environment->Weather

The following is the weight and balance menu which is specific to the aircraft you have loaded. In my case I was loading the Hughes 500 add-on helicopter for x-plane v9. I have included this menu to show that you might consider adding some normal operational weight to your aircraft before starting out. This will affect the flight dynamics you are expecting.
