To commemorate & celebrate Steve's life,
and his contributions to the FS community,
we plan to hold a Memorial Fly-In
at Blackpool, (EGNH), around Steve's Irish-Sea scenery.
Second only to his beloved wife Margaret,
helicopters were Steve's other main passion, both real world and in the flight simulator community.
In real life, Steve had served in the Army, supporting helicopters,
then worked at Qualitair and Bond, (later absorbed into CHC).
Steve was a Licensed Aircraft Engineer/Supervisor for CHC,
based primarily at Humberside, (EGNJ), regularly at Blackpool, (EGNH), and occassionally at North Denes (EGSD),
maintaining their helicopter fleet for servicing the offshore oil & gas fields.
In flight simulator, Steve was a founding member, and a key driving force behind the ODG Project,
creating many of the components of the ODG packages,
namely the UKEZ's S_NSS & C_IS fixed-platforms, FPSOs, Jack-Ups, several Semi-Subs & Vessels,
plus 50% of the USAEZ GoM demo package.
He'd been working his way though updating these for FSX.
Steve was an active FS participant at Hovercontrol and the AirWeGo/VertiGo VA, where he was CEO for VertiGo.
He also participated in the now defunct VERT VA. Steve was widely known around ll of the communities, although on Hovercontrol, he held somewhat of a special place being one of the early members and also part of the original Hovercontrol Hawks demonstration team.
Over the years he'd created many models for sceneries located throughout the FS world,
both as freeware and components of commercially released packages.
Any FSDS user will be familiar with his highly detailed Galaxy III model,
and users of the Nl2000 v3 will appreciate his offshore platform models.
With the release of FSX he'd recently added an new string to his bow, creating some excellent FSX Mission packages.
Steve's other hobbies included -
- Tinkering with, and sailing, his motor-cruiser.
Steve lived in Wrawby, Humberside, England, nearby to Humberside Airport, (EGNJ).
Steve's life was taken from us so soon. This time last year, in a strange case, Steve was taken by cancer at the age of 50.
Join us Saturday, August 14, 2010 at 17:00UTC to remember and celebrate the life of Steve "VertiGo" Chase.
