SkyVector.com might well be the coolest dynamic sectional chart flight planning website on the internet. It can come in very useful for creating simple flight plans, getting weather reports, getting airport information as well as locating nearby; airports, navaids, and other aviation facilities.

The variety of features available on skyvector.com could probably take some time to full get familiar with. However, in this article - using labeled screenshots - we'll try to lay out some of the basic flight planning and information capabilities that can be had very easily and quickly.

Along the way, don't forget that much like Google Maps, you can move the sectional chart around by click-and-drag with the mouse and the mouse scroll wheel can be used to zoom the sectional chart in and out.

Center on correct sectional by using Search Box


Choose a waypoint by right-clicking - Click PLAN to add


Repeat the process - watch the flightplan grow


Weather reports are shown as blue dots - Hover over for report


Click on airport or facility name to get information page


Airport Information Available with charts and facility/runway details
